EFT- Tapping

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), commonly known as Tapping, is an evidence-based form of therapy which involves using two fingers to tap on acupuncture points.

Stimulating known acupuncture points sends deactivating signals to the stress centre in the brain (amygdala) which in turn has an effect on the brain’s memory centre (hippocampus). EFT has also been shown to significantly lower cortisol levels, which is the stress hormone. These regulate the autonomic nervous system and are all involved in our behavioural and emotional responses.

Tapping can change distressing or negative feelings and self-limiting thoughts or behaviours, as well as instil more positive emotional states, beliefs, and goals. It can be used in its simplest form as a self-help tool to calm yourself and dissolve some uncomfortable feelings. However, deeper issues need the trauma informed expertise of a qualified EFT practitioner.

Tapping can be used for anxiety, depression, stress, phobias, PTSD, pain, insomnia, autoimmune conditions, food cravings and emotional eating as well as other conditions. It can also help improve your immune system and performance in sports and studying.

There have currently been 320 clinical studies worldwide, with 99% indicating the effectiveness of EFT. 

Research on gene expression indicates EFT has the ability to up-regulate or improve immune functioning, and down regulate genes associated with the stress response. This included: protection against UV radiation, regulation of type 2 diabetes, immunity from opportunistic infections, anti-viral activity, enhancement of male fertility, building white matter in the brain improving memory and learning, neuroplasticity, metabolic regulations, reinforcement of cell membranes, and reduction of oxidative stress and inflammation.
